centre of the universe: the dreaming

06/27/2008: "Diaspora and those with the Tiniest Thoraces." I've always loved the word 'diaspora'. Well, maybe I didn't love it before I knew about it, but I think I probably did. A kind of precognitive enrapture.

As I may have mentioned, The Tiny Thorax Viper Pilot and Mrs. Cool have spawned, and I should like to collect some interesting words for the Wee One.

Please reply in comments with your cool words, and, if desired, a sentence in which your cool word is used. Your words will be painstakingly hand-lettered into a personalised keepsake, which will then be framed and sent to Wee Habitant (or, W.H., for short) when the words are collected.

"Extry, Extry, Read all about it!"       "Those of us who loved her and were with her till the end"

My favorite new word comes from Derrida.

Iterability - The nature of things to repeat but with that repetition change.

The iterability of societal behaviors demonstrates that the more things change, the more things stay the same.

That's a really simplified version, and while I'd love to explain more about the word, I doubt anyone cares or has that kind of patience. :)

OK, from Merriam Webster's definition of diaspora, it's a pretty depressing word.

My favourite words for a while were pertinent and irrelevant. example: If you can't say something pertinent to the conversation... say something *completely* irrelevant!

I'm not sure if I have a favourite word right now. There are, after all, so many of them. So many awesome ones. I like to misuse 'slash' (although in regular conversation, I never remember to do so). "Those shoes are so slash! Where did you buy them?" If I think of more, I might post again.

Arbitrary is elegant and evocative. A fantastic word.

I also use 'Touche' alot, so I must like that one too.

As it's a favorite word to describe teh settings of two of my most favoritest books (1984 and Brave New World), I'm going to throw in....

Dystopia

The opposite of Utopia. Or even use 'Dystopian'. Maybe it'll give the kid something to rally against.
